Heather + Pat + Shelby on the way

The amount of joy I have in my heart for these two parents to be is over flowing.   From the moment I heard Heather and Pat were expecting i’ve been so excited for them to experience the joys of parenthood.    They are going to be SUCH great parents and I can’t wait to meet sweet little Shelby.   We met up in a secret little spot of theirs so they could bring their fur babies and let them run wild.  It actually worked good that way and they wore themselves out to cooperate for some big group shots.   Enjoy some of my favorites!  It was really hard to narrow these down but here is what I got…….

Sweet Dixie- the oldest fur baby

Heather, you are glowing, and so beautiful.

Our Week in Pictures

Last week we took a vacation week and did a few fun things around the city and really just had a lot of togetherness time.   We stay so busy all the time it was nice to have designated time for us three to be together and do fun things and creating memories.  We didn’t do too much, but our week was filled with a day at the park, spending time with our family in Greenville, the Greenville zoo, Ray’s Splash Planet, testing out a cute local sub shop, and visiting Paul’s family in Hickory.  It was relaxing and so fun.  Here’s a play back in pictures.   Unfortunately I don’t take as many pictures with the big camera as I should.  I do however get a bunch with my phone, so I also included some instagrams of our past month including last week.

What to Wear to Your Photo Session

A very commonly asked question when planning a photo shoot is  “What do you suggest we wear?”.    There are a few factors that go into this answer:   personality, coordinating everyone, location, textures, layers, and accessories.  I decided after having our family pictures done and picking outfits for us that it would be good to write a post devoted strictly to this topic.  It was harder then I thought picking something for each of us and wanted to share my perspective.  Here are a few things I’ve compiled to help you pick your outfit.

1.  Always pick something that shows your personality.  You want the pictures to really reflect you and show who you are as a person/family.

2.  You want to remember to have everyone coordinating, but not trying to match the colors exactly.  This is hard for some people.  You don’t want everyone to wear the same shade of  red shirt.  Choosing a solid red shirt, a pattern with the same red in it, etc.  are ways to work around that.  We tend to tell people to stay away from the white shirt and kaki shorts/pants look.  Put some personality into it!  A good place to start is picking one outfit first and branching out from there.  It’s usually easier to start with the woman/girls of the family.  They are usually the ones that wear prints (flowers, etc.).

3.  You want to make sure the outfit you pick reflects the location of your shoot and the weather.

4.  Bring in different textures and layer it up.   For our shoot Paul layered his neutral outfit and had a nice textured sweater with a button down underneath.  This pulled it all together nicely.  This is pretty easy for girls too (a nice cardigan, denim jacket, or blazers, etc.).

5.  Don’t be afraid to accessorize.  You don’t want to do over do the accessories by any means but you do want to bring in some accessories.  Weather permitted a scarf is nice, a single piece of jewelry, hats, belts, headbands, etc.

To get more ideas on outfits, check out our  Session Outfits board on Pinterest.

What’s a post without pictures right?  I’ll leave you with a few picutres of our family phtographed by the wonderful The Beautiful Mess!  Don’t forget to go check out the rest of our pictures here!  The Beautiful Mess did such a great job at capturing our sweet little family.  Pierson was such a ham!

For our session we wanted Pierson to be the star of our photo shoot and the cutest of us all.  So we started with his outfit first and built of it.  We picked a pretty blue checkered print button up onesie with a matching hat.   Then we found a blue tie that matched his outfit perfectly and Paul paired that with some neutral layers.  I picked a complimenting coral shade and layered it with a cardigan.  To bring in their blue I had a matching bracelet.    Hopefully this helped!

Charles + Mary Beth- Charlotte Wedding Photographer

Oh My.  There are so many great things I can say about this couple, this wedding, and how much it all means to me and touched me.  I’ll try to do my best to give it all justice.

I’ve known Mary Beth and Charles for a very long time.    I grew up best friends with Mary Beth’s sister Sarah, so when I say I feel like they are all family I REALLY do.   Not only have I known Mary Beth that long, but Charles has been around for a long time too.    After being engaged for 10 years they finally tied the knot.  The could not pick a more beautiful day, or location.  The weather was perfect when I arrived that morning and the scenery was gorgous.   They were getting ready in this little old farmhouse, complete with stained vanity mirrors and original hardwood floors.  There were so many beautiful big trees and their ceremony was under an arbor in a flower garden.  It couldn’t have been more perfect.  It was a small wedding with just immediate family and I just love that.  It really focused on them as a couple and made it so much more intimate and sweet.

Charles and Mary Beth decided to do a first look.  I love this idea and I can’t tell you how happy I was to watch Charles’ reaction when seeing his beautiful bride.  Mary Beth, you were stunning!  Charles was so blown away and couldn’t stop marveling at how gorgeous you were.  It was the.sweetest.thing.ever.!!

When it was time for Mary Beth’s dad to walk her down the isle we were talking about him “giving her away”.  He said the sweetest thing….. “I’m not giving her away, Im just letting her get married.  I would never give her away”.  Heart. Melt.

I adore your family and am so glad to have been apart of this special day.  I wish you both a lifetime of happiness and am so full of joy for you both.  Enjoy some of my favorites.

This is right when someone told her Charles was on his way :D

Jennie and Tres-Engagement

This lovely couple caught the bouquet and garter at Summer + Zach’s wedding last year.    It didn’t take long to find out they got engaged!!!  We are so excited for these two and are beyond thrilled to be a part of their big day!  We headed to Hickory to do their engagement session at The Rock Barn and had a great time chatting it up and riding around on the golf carts.  Their wedding will surely go down as a favorite in our books.  Enjoy some of our favorites.

Couldn’t decide between the next two so I am including them both.
